## Confirm the number with your centre

Treat the 90 to 120 euro range as a planning figure, not a quote. Centres set their own fees, and
the figure varies by country. The centre's own page or an email to them is the only reliable
source for what you will actually pay.

## The costs people forget

The registration fee is rarely the whole bill.

- **Preparation.** Textbooks, a tutor, a course, or a practice tool. This is usually the larger
  number over the months before the exam.
- **Travel and time off.** If your nearest centre with availability is in another city, add the
  journey and possibly a night's accommodation and a day of lost work.
- **A retake.** The full fee again, plus another wait of months for the next session.
- **A certificate replacement.** A lost certificate costs 25 euros to replace, and only within
  2 years of the exam. After that window there is no replacement at all.
- **A re-mark.** A reapreciação costs 25 euros and is not refunded whatever the outcome.

## Why the retake cost changes the calculation

The exam fee is a one-off if you pass and a recurring cost if you do not. That reframes what
preparation is worth: spending modestly on getting reliably above the pass mark is cheap compared
with a second fee, a second wait of months, and a delayed citizenship application.

This is the honest argument for knowing where you stand before you book, rather than booking and
hoping.

## How this compares with the course route

A PLA course is the main alternative. Government-subsidised courses can be free or very low cost
for eligible residents, while private PLA courses range from a few hundred euros upward. So CIPLE
has the lower upfront cost if you pass first time, and a subsidised PLA course can be cheaper
overall if you qualify for one.
