## What a LAPE actually does

CAPLE sets and marks the exam in Lisbon. The LAPE network, roughly 100 centres across 35
countries, delivers it locally. That division explains most of the things candidates find
confusing.

Your LAPE decides which sessions it runs and when registration for them opens. It handles or
routes your registration. It holds your registration records, including the candidate number you
will need to look up results. It receives your certificate from CAPLE and hands it to you.

## Three consequences worth knowing in advance

**Availability is per centre, not national.** There is no single calendar showing every open
session, which is why the portal alone is an unreliable way to find one and why contacting centres
directly works better.

**Your certificate goes back to the centre where you sat the exam.** Not to CAPLE, not to a centre
nearer to where you now live. If you travelled to another city for a session, you are travelling
back to collect the document, or arranging for someone to collect it for you.

**Postal delivery depends entirely on your centre.** Some will post the certificate if you supply
a registered envelope. Others will not: the centre at the University of Lisbon states outright
that it does not send certificates or diplomas by post and hands them over at the faculty only.

## Ask your centre these things early

- Do you post certificates, and if so, what do I need to provide?
- What is your policy on someone else collecting on my behalf?
- Which sessions are you running, and when does registration open for them?
- If I fail one component, can I resit only that component here?

Asking before you book is free. Asking afterwards can mean discovering that collecting your
document requires a journey you did not plan for.
