Frequently asked questions
About the CIPLE A2 exam and about what this tool does. For account, billing and cancellation, see support. For a question at a time on the exam, scoring, registration and the citizenship language rule, see common questions.
What does A2 CIPLE Prep actually cover?
The reading component of the CIPLE A2 exam, which is 45% of your score. You get unlimited exam-style reading questions graded instantly, corrections that show what you missed, timed practice exams, a readiness score, and vocabulary review that schedules itself. We do not cover the speaking, listening or writing components.
Do you issue an A2 certificate?
No. We are an independent preparation tool, not an exam board and not a course provider. Only CAPLE issues the CIPLE certificate, and only a DGERT-certified provider issues a PLA course certificate. We are not affiliated with, authorised by, or endorsed by either.
What is the difference between CIPLE and a PLA course?
CIPLE is a single exam sat on a fixed date. PLA (Portugues Lingua de Acolhimento) is a course pathway with ongoing assessment instead of one high-stakes test. Both routes can produce A2 proof accepted for citizenship. Our guides compare them in detail.
How is the CIPLE exam scored?
You need 55% overall and at least 25% in every section. A strong reading score cannot rescue a section you failed outright, which is why our readiness score is calibrated to both rules rather than to the overall percentage alone.
Is the Portuguese European or Brazilian?
European Portuguese only. Brazilian vocabulary and spelling cost real points on the exam, so every item is human-validated to the CIPLE format before it reaches you.
Do I need to know some Portuguese already?
Some familiarity helps. The material targets the A1-to-A2 transition, so if you can handle greetings and simple everyday phrases, you are ready to start.
Can I use it from outside Portugal?
Yes. Everything runs in the browser, and there are iOS and Android apps. Nothing is tied to a location or a timetable.
What does it cost?
€0.99 per month, or €9.99 per year, which works out at about €0.83 per month and adds exam seat-opening alerts. The three-question reading quiz on the homepage is free and needs no account.
