How do I get my CIPLE certificate after passing?

CAPLE issues it roughly 21 working days after results are published and ships it to the centre where you sat the exam. You collect it there in person and sign a receipt declaration. Some centres will post it if you supply a registered envelope, but many will not, so ask yours.

The sequence

  1. Results are published on CAPLE's website, up to about six weeks after the session closes.
  2. CAPLE issues the certificate and ships it to your centre. This takes roughly 21 working days after results. Some centres quote a slightly shorter 15 to 20 working days.
  3. You collect it in person at the centre where you sat the exam. Not at CAPLE, and not at a different centre.
  4. You sign a receipt declaration when you take it.

A note on vocabulary: levels A1 and A2 receive a certificado. B1 through C2 receive a diploma. The CIPLE is A2, so what you are collecting is a certificate.

Can someone collect it for you?

Usually yes, with a written authorisation that you have signed. Centres normally publish a template for this, so ask before sending anyone. This matters if you travelled to another city for a session, because the certificate goes back to that centre rather than to one near you.

Two things that will save you real money

Check your name on the attendance sheet on exam day. The spelling on that sheet is the spelling that goes on your certificate. Errors must be reported to your centre in writing within 5 working days. After the certificate has been issued, fixing a name means paying for a duplicate and returning the original.

Scan it the day you collect it. A lost certificate costs 25 euros to replace, and only within 2 years of the exam. After that window there is no replacement at all. Store the scan somewhere you will still have access to in a decade, because a citizenship process can outlast a laptop.

Duplicates are free only when the original was damaged in delivery or contains an error that was CAPLE's own fault.

Budget the whole chain

From exam day to document in hand is about three months. If a deadline is driving this, that is the number to plan around.

What if my name is spelled wrong on my CIPLE certificate?

Report it to your exam centre in writing within 5 working days. The spelling on the attendance sheet you signed on exam day is the spelling that gets printed, so check it there. Once the certificate has been issued, correcting a name means paying for a duplicate and returning the original.

What is a LAPE and why does it matter to me?

A LAPE is an authorised CAPLE exam centre. It is where you sit the exam, and it matters more than most candidates expect: it controls which sessions exist, holds your registration records and candidate number, and is the only place you can collect your certificate, in person, once it is issued.

When should I register for the CIPLE exam relative to my deadline?

Work backwards from your deadline. Budget about three months from exam day to certificate in hand, because results take up to six weeks and issuing takes another 21 working days on top. Then add the time to find a slot at all, which can be the longest stage of the lot.
